What is the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA)?

NHSDA, a national dance honor society, is designed for dance education students, dance educators and professional dancers to express their devotion to the art form by sharing, recognizing, and promoting dance education within schools and communities. NHSDA chapters are designed for students in high school who are receiving their dance training in public or private dance schools. By promoting, NHSDA, National Dance Education Organization recognizes outstanding students.

NHSDA at Kick

We are thrilled to announce that Kick is now a National Honor Society for Dance Arts Chapter! Pledges and inductees will earn society points through dance and their community involvement, as well as maintaining high academic standards. Pledges will earn honor cords for their graduations and will be able to have the honor on all college applications.  We are thrilled to be a part of the NHSDA Society and More Than Just Great Dancing!

How can I join?

  • Candidate must maintain and show proof of a 3.0 GPA
  • Candidate must earn at least 30 points in order to maintain membership (see NDA points sheet below)
  • Candidate must participate in at least 2 days of dance per week
    Candidates must be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior high school student

Kick Performing Arts Chapter

Members must achieve 30 points for induction. Any combination of points can be used as long as the total is 30. Members are responsible for tracking their own points and will be expected to show proof of points achieved by May 1st.

Dance
Enrolled weekly in at least one day of dance for the season= 2 points
Each additional day of dance= 1 point
Participate in school dance team/program= 2 points
Participate in non-competitive dance performance= 2 points
Participate in dance competition= 2 points
Attend a live dance performance= 2 points
Participate in a summer dance convention = 2 points
Participate in a summer program (non-competition/convention)= 3 points

Community
Participate in Teacher Training Program= 3 points
Volunteer at Kick  event= 5 points
Volunteer at a non-Kick community service event= 2 points
Advocate for dance in the community= 2 points
Organize and produce community service event= 5 points

Academic
Receive artwork award at your school= 2 points
Receive academic award at your school= 2 points
Achieve honor roll/dean’s list at your school= 2 points
Maintain a GPA higher than 3.5= 2 points
Write historical paper on a dance related topic= 4 points
(Min 300 words, three references)
